"GORI" Kahi ki

"She is very beautiful, look how fair she is", came the expert comment. I looked up and saw a girl fair enough but average looking.
Might be the jealousy in me changed my views, or maybe I was just being a fair judge.
Lets come to the point now, fair or white skinned or "gorapan"; somehow I do not understand the fuss surrounding it. So many fairness creams in the market and the figures show that the sales keep increasing.
The dark skinned ones want to be fair, the fair ones want to be even more fair.

The Television ad goes like, something something nikhaar in such a few days.
And the fairness, my god; you will not need a bulb when lights go off.
Oh c'mon do you think I'll believe that??

Well actually I do and I try it out and then psychologically I feel that yes it is working. But after a few days, am back to my normal self, not looking that fair the much I wanted to.

And sometimes, I go to a party with so much makeup piled on that I look so artificial. Ultimately am made fun of.
Wouldn't it have been better had I looked more natural.
And so what I thought was better, ended up making a mockery of my self.

Does the fault for this fallacy lie with girls like me or is it the society mounting pressure; well actually both equally.

The whole notion just brings about lack of confidence in us, we start hating our natural self, striving to be someone we are definitely not.
What's wrong with being dark skinned? Black or brown as it generally is, is a color too and a real classy one.

Do you think Halle Berry ever went about using fair and lovely or was Aishwarya mad to have sported a tanned look?
No, they carried it with aplomb and we have loved them

Now this is how it is, you love yourself, people will fall for you;the real you.
The point is simple, rest you introspect.

(The other day an aunty called me "kali", hawww, how could she,but then I murmured to my self, "gori kahi ki", )
